Osasuna Ends Drought, Girona Slips Again

At long last, Osasuna gave their fans something to cheer about.

On April 13, 2025, they secured a much-needed 2-1 win over Girona at El Sadar Stadium. Notably, this was their first victory in over two months. As a result, it brought a breath of fresh air to their survival hopes.

First Half: A Game of Patience

The match started with both teams cautious.

Girona had more possession early on. However, Osasuna stayed compact and organized.

Then, in the 37th minute, the breakthrough came. Aimar Oroz whipped in a perfect cross. Ante Budimir rose above the defense and headed it in. Osasuna led 1-0.

Girona responded quickly. They pushed higher up the pitch and created chances. Still, their efforts were either blocked or caught offside.

Second Half: Osasuna Strike Again, Asprilla Responds

The second half began with Girona pushing harder in search of an equalizer.

But Osasuna stayed sharp on the counterattack. In the 78th minute, they struck again. Ante Budimir turned provider this time, setting up Pablo Ibáñez. With composure, Ibáñez slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.

It looked like the game was wrapped up for the home side.

However, Girona refused to give in.

In stoppage time, Yáser Asprilla delivered a moment of brilliance. He picked up the ball outside the box, shifted onto his left foot, and curled a stunning shot into the corner. It was his third goal of the season—and possibly his most impressive yet.

While it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, it was a silver lining for Girona. Asprilla’s talent continues to shine, even in tough moments.

Final Whistle: A Vital Win

When the final whistle blew, Osasuna had all three points.

This win lifted them to 38 points. That puts them nine clear of the relegation zone.

For Girona, it’s now three losses in a row. They remain just five points above the drop. The pressure is mounting.

Looking Ahead

Moving forward, Osasuna will hope to carry this momentum into their next fixtures. Every point matters now, and this win could spark a late-season revival.

Meanwhile, Girona must regroup quickly. Although they showed moments of quality, they lacked consistency. More importantly, they need to convert their possession into goals. Otherwise, they risk slipping deeper into danger.

Still, there is a silver lining. Yáser Asprilla continues to show flashes of brilliance. While his goal didn’t change the result, it may have changed the tone of the conversation around Girona’s future.
